Fall 2023 / Grad Representation Studio: Drawings / Instructors: Trevor Herman Hilker + Shou Jie Eng
Drawing of wood shop machines using the wood shop machines
In the final diptych of our representation studio, we explored drawing as world-making. As a wood shop monitor, I was immersed in the mechanic soundscape of the wood shop during the semester so I naturally selected the shop to be my world for this drawing. I used the table saw, chop saw, band saw + laser cutter to draw the CNC, wood planer, table saw, band saw + laser cutter. The surface beds of the machines determined the composition of the drawings. I arrived at the triangular configuration to represent the cycling of a material through the machines: from one bed to another, switching perspectives.
