Many architectural projects in Kuwait memorialize obsolete and short-lived images of progress or “modernity” from the 60s and 70s. The aftermath of many of these projects, including our increasingly privatized coastline, is incompletion, neglect or demolition. Being surrounded by this makes me ask how young people of the early 21st century imagine a habitable and nourishing future in our region.

I started this drawing in June 2023 while visiting Kuwait, before I moved to Rhode Island for architecture school. I worked on it on and off for months whenever I had the chance during my program- I think the many hours of untrimmed lines in Rhino (CAD software) and wireframe perspective informed how I drew here. Many conversations with friends and from class have also poured into this drawing. After I started the drawing, parts of the shoreline have been sectioned off for “redevelopment”.
